CHARLES G. HALGRIMSON, M.D.
1934 - 2013
It is with great sadness that we report that Dr. Charles G. ("Charlie") Halgrimson passed away on August 27, 2013. He was a long-time member and leader in the University of Colorado, School of Medicine and the Department of Surgery.
Dr. Halgrimson attended both Concordia College and University of North Dakota as an undergraduate and then matriculated to Harvard Medical School where he graduated in 1961. He then came to the University of Colorado School of Medicine to complete training in General and Thoracic Surgery, interrupted by two years of service in the US Army.
He started his faculty career as a surgeon at the University of Colorado in 1969 and quickly rose through the ranks to Professor in 1979. Charlie made significant contributions to the Department of Surgery during the early years of solid organ transplantation. He was highly respected by the residents and widely recognized as an adroit and masterful operator. He had a productive and distinguished career at the University of Colorado where he held many leadership positions including General Surgery Residency Director, Vice Chair of Surgery, Acting Chair of Surgery, and Acting Dean of the School of Medicine.
