FRANK A. FOLK, M.D.
1925 - 2021

Dr. Frank Folk was born on December 15, 1925. He was a graduate of Northwestern University and completed Medical School in 1949 at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine He married Lorna Collette Hill on June 18, 1949 as he started his internship and residency at Cook County Hospital. Dr Folk was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War as a battalion surgeon and Commanding Officer of Easy Medical Company, a Marine Corps field hospital. He received a commendation and was awarded the Bronze Star with a Combat "V" in 1953.
Following the war Dr and Mrs. Folk moved to Naperville, a suburb of Chicago. He formally joined the Cook County Hospital surgical staff as acting Chief of Surgery and was director of the breast tumor service. Later he joined the surgical staffs at Hines VA Hospital serving as Chief of Surgical Services and Loyola University Medical Center being named Professor of Surgery in 1972 and Emeritus Professor of Surgery in 1996. He officially retired from practice in 1999.
He contributed to various professional publications and served as Governor of the American College of Surgeons and president of several surgical and medical societies. One colleague described him this way "Frank was and still is considered truly one of nature's noblemen by all who knew him well". Frank and Lonnie folk (who preceded him in death) had nine children (and spouses), 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dr Frank A. Folk passed away on January 30, 2021. May his soul rest in peace.
